Resource Summary
We describe the professional development component, or Learning Circle, of the Community-engaged Scholars Program, a multidisciplinary, cohort-based program intended to build scholars’ capacity for community-engaged scholarship. We explore the Learning Circle in the context of “team science.” We argue that the Learning Circle pedagogy is a right fit for promoting, not just engaged research, but also engaged team science, within the academy.

The Learning Circle offers a model for building scholars’ capacity to conduct community-engaged research within multidisciplinary teams. This Learning Material illustrates how the Learning Circle approach can be used to support both community engagement and effective team science within academic settings.
The Learning Circle has been used as the professional development component of the Community-engaged Scholars Program to support multidisciplinary cohorts of scholars engaged in community-based research. The material is designed to facilitate structured reflection, peer learning, and discussion around the opportunities and challenges of conducting community-engaged scholarship, particularly in collaborative and team-based settings.
